Ploud or PlayStation Portal
PlayStation Portal is a screen with controllers, sold for €249.99 since April 2026. It does no processing: it displays the picture from a PlayStation 5 that you must own. Comparing them therefore means comparing an accessory with a service.

What the Portal gets right
As an accessory, it is excellent. Its controls are those of a DualSense, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which no third-party client replicates. Pairing is immediate, there is nothing to configure, and the eight-inch screen strikes the right balance between a phone and a TV.
It is missing the console
It needs a PlayStation 5 switched on somewhere. The Portal is not a console, it is a window onto one. Bought alone, it displays nothing. The real bill for playing GTA 6 is therefore €249.99 plus €649.99, nearly €900 before you have even bought the game.

When to buy a Portal
If you already have a PlayStation 5 and want to play somewhere other than in front of the TV, the Portal is the best device for that, and nothing at Ploud replaces it. It's when the console is missing that the comparison changes sides.

Frequently asked questions
Does the PlayStation Portal work without a PS5?
No. It displays the picture from a PlayStation 5 that's switched on. Without a console, it shows nothing.
How much does the PlayStation Portal cost?
€249.99 since Sony's price rise on 2 April 2026, up from €219.99 before.
Can you use a Portal with a Ploud console?
No. The Portal links to a console registered on your account and located on your network. Ploud works through the browser.
What replaces haptic feedback?
A DualSense controller plugged in via USB reproduces some of the vibration in the browser. The adaptive triggers, however, don't come through.

Ploud or Remote Play
Sony's Remote Play technically does what Ploud does: it films a PlayStation 5 and sends you the picture. It's free, it's good, and it assumes you already have the console. That's the only difference, and it's worth €649.99.
ReadRent a PS5 or buy one
A PlayStation 5 Slim has cost €649.99 since April 2026. Rented at €2.68 an hour, the same console works out cheaper as long as you play less than about 240 hours. Beyond that, buying regains the advantage.
ReadPlay PS5 games on iPad
An iPad controls a remote PlayStation 5 from Safari, without installing anything or using the App Store. Its chip decodes the video in hardware, so the tablet stays cool, and the DualSense controller pairs over Bluetooth like a headset.
