The TV's own system does the work: it decodes the video stream just as it decodes a series. TVs sold since 2020 can handle it. A spare Google TV box works too, if your screen is older.
Game mode, the setting that changes everything
A TV applies image processing by default: smoothing, interpolation, noise reduction. Each one adds delay between the moment the frame arrives and the moment it is displayed. Game mode switches that processing off and removes 20 to 80 ms depending on the model, which is considerable next to the 60 to 100 ms of the network journey.
Switch on Game mode for the input you are using, not just in the general menu. On many TVs, the setting is specific to each source.
On other TVs
| Screen | Route |
|---|---|
| Google TV, Android TV | Moonlight, directly on the TV |
| Samsung Tizen, LG webOS | The built-in browser, when it is up to date |
| TV without a recent system | A Google TV box, or a laptop over HDMI |

A console in a data centre, not in the TV cabinet
Ploud hosts in France a physical PlayStation 5 reserved for you. It does not heat up your living room, makes no noise, and does not lose value. You switch it on for an evening, switch it off, and an idle console is never billed. Stream quality and target latency are detailed in latency in cloud gaming.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need to buy a box to play on the TV?
No, if your TV runs Google TV or Android TV 10 or later. The Moonlight app is free and installs from the TV's Play Store.
Is the TV's Game mode really useful?
Yes. It removes image processing and cuts 20 to 80 ms of delay depending on the model, compared with the 60 to 100 ms of the network journey. It is the highest-payoff setting in the whole chain.
Does it work on a Samsung or LG TV?
Through the built-in browser, when it is up to date. These screens give no access to the Play Store, so none to Moonlight. A Google TV box lifts the limitation.
Can you use a DualSense controller on the TV?
Yes, over Bluetooth. It pairs with the TV like any other accessory.

Latency in cloud gaming
Latency in cloud gaming is the sum of six legs, only one of which cannot be reduced: distance. The rest can be tuned, and two free settings, the TV's Game mode and switching to Ethernet, often remove more time than everything else combined.

No PlayStation 5 game runs natively on macOS. Three routes exist: Remote Play from a PS5 you own, the PC port when there is one, and renting a remote PS5 that you play in Safari or Chrome.

No service streams the PlayStation 5 catalogue as a whole. PlayStation Plus Premium offers a selection subject to publisher agreement, and PC services like GeForce Now only have access to games that exist on PC. For the rest, you need a console.
